Sigalot sa West Philippine Sea




Naniniwala ang pinuno ng National Security Council (NSC) na ang sigalot sa West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) ang pinakaimportanteng security concern ng bansa.
Sinabi ni NSC Director General Cesar Garcia sa pagdinig ng Senate national defense committee na naungusan na ng usapin ng West Philippine Sea ang iba pang internal concerns tulad ng Muslim at communist insurgencies.
Panahon na anyang tutukan ang military capability at gawing territorial defense ang pokus ng militar.
"Unfortunately, we are not dealing with an ideal world. Instead we are dealing with a world of realpolitik," ani Garcia. "More than ever, it is very imperative to transition the Armed Forces from its domestic security focus towards an external or territorial defense role as soon as possible."
Sa mga bansa sa Southeast Asia, ang Pilipinas ang may pinakamababang pondo para sa militar na umaabot lamang sa 1.1 hanggang 1.3 percent ng gross domestic product (GDP).
Dahil dito, nanawagan si Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) General Gregorio Catapang sa mga mambabatas ng mas malaking budget at itaas ito sa 2 percent o higit pa ng GDP. (DZMM)
